    JOB DESCRIPTION

    JOB TITLE: Vice President of Workforce Development

    REPORTS TO: Chamber President

    SUMMARY STATEMENT:

    The Vice President of Workforce Development leads and collaborates on initiatives that will attract, retain and build the talented workforce that the Rochester region will need for growth and success and is the most visible member of the Chamber staff in this arena. The work of this position follows strategy set forth by the Rochester Chamber of Commerce Foundation Board of Trustees. Administration and operations of workforce development are overseen by the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce President. This position is responsible for overseeing and managing the implementation of the strategic plan, which requires strong development, communication, and relationship building skills.

     

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provide administrative leadership for the strategy, development, and implementation of workforce development & education that addresses the needs of local and regional businesses and industries.
    • Develop and implement a long-range plan and strategy for workforce development.
    • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Chamber’s policies. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training Workforce Development staff, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
    • Create and manage execution of Workforce Development events, program activities and initiatives with a specific focus on the needs of small business in the Rochester area.
    • Effectively develop and manage budget for Rochester Chamber of Commerce Foundation as directed by Chamber President.
    • Effectively develop and manage marketing strategies for Rochester Chamber of Commerce Foundation as directed by Chamber President.
    • Set and direct the strategies for targeted events, program activities and initiatives as directed by the Chamber President.
    • Ensure Chamber Members and other approved users are educated on best practices for implementing and using Workforce Development products and programs to develop, attract, and retain talent.
    • Successfully collaborate and cultivate positive relationships with Rochester areas educational and workforce development systems, specifically K-12 public/private schools, post-secondary education, and local businesses/industries to foster and maintain strong connections that support a competitive workforce.
    • Utilize effective teaming, internally and externally, to drive education and workforce development initiatives, events, communications and necessary sponsorships.
    • Research, collaborate, and write grants serving the mission of the Chamber Foundation. Develop, coordinate and monitor related state, federal and private workforce projects\grants.
    • Represent the Chamber Foundation on relevant community boards and/or initiatives.
    • Serve as the Chamber’s representative in local and regional consortia formed to advance workforce development and education. Participate in conferences, training sessions, and meetings relating to workforce development.
    • Follows news reports, current events, outside task forces and other initiatives as they pertain to the Foundation’s workforce mission.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned and consistent with the role and function of the position.
    • Some travel will be required in this position.

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

    • Effective communication and presentation skills with a keen attention to detail.
    • Experience in building strategic partnerships and alliances.
    • A proven track record of strong leadership and motivation ability. Experience leading volunteers and building coalitions around key issues/initiatives is desired.
    • Ability to champion innovative ideas, proactively seek out opportunities and employ critical thinking skills to negotiate solutions/partnerships.
    • Quick study with the ability to work in a fast paced, collaborative environment.
    • Computer proficiency, budget management, and social media platform knowledge/use is desired.
    • Strong networking skills. Candidate has the ability to develop strong relationships quickly with existing education, business, city, and community leaders. Existing contacts and networks in this area are a plus.
    • Experience in writing and managing grants is desired.
    • Employee may occasionally be exposed to confidential information while participating in project work. Confidentiality is to be respected.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • BA degree in Education, Business Administration, Project Management or related field is required.
    • Minimum of three years of experience in education administration, business administration, workforce development or non-profit administration required.

    Minimum of three years of experience in project management, public relations and customer service is preferred.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Work is typically performed in an office setting but may be assigned more physical duties such as transporting supplies and equipment, usually but not always < 35 lbs. This position requires local travel, occasional early morning and evening hours, and limited national travel.

  • Government Affairs Intern Government Affairs Intern

    JOB TITLE: Government Affairs Intern                                    
    REPORTS TO: Government Affairs Coordinator

    APPLY BY: Saturday, May 20th

    COMPENSATION: Minimum wage/hour: part time hours M - F mainly between 8 - 5, but some nights or early mornings may be required

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The overall role of this position is to assist with Government and Advocacy projects and meetings. This position will:

    • Work closely with Government Affairs department

    • Assist with planning/setup of Government Affairs events, managing tasks and communications to ensure successful events

    • Work on one large, assigned project which will involve research on an item of importance to our region and the Chamber, to report out on to Chamber staff

    • Attend Government Affairs events and meetings, as well as City/County Government meetings (i.e. Committee of the Whole, City Council, County Board) and provide reports to Chamber staff about attended meetings

    • Ensure membership is informed on relevant and important topics from Federal, State and Local levels of politics

    • Perform other related duties as assigned and consistent with the role and function of the position

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

    • Strong organizational skills

    • Self-starter with the ability to work autonomously

    • Time and project management skills (ability to work on numerous projects at once)

    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, including Outlook

    • Quick study with the ability to work in a fast paced, collaborative environment

    • Ability to communicate clearly and succinctly

    • Willingness to ask questions and learn

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Background in government affairs and/or political science

    • Ability to work during the hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm M-F, with occasional before or after hours

    • Reliable transportation is necessary as this position involves local travel
